MTV News has learned that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have teamed up to create a new film project in 2018 called Wizard of Oz.
The project will be a spin-off of the classic Disney classic, and is based on the story of Oz and the mythical creatures he encounters.
The film will be set in the 1920s, in the era of The Wizard of Ozz, and will be directed by Michael Bay, who will star.
“The story is set in Oz and features a host of memorable characters and characters from the Oz mythology, including Dorothy Gale (played by Jennifer Lawrence), the Wicked Witch of the West (Maggie Gyllenhaal), the Tin Woodman (Peter Cushing), the King of Oz (Christopher Plummer), and many others,” the studio said in a statement.
“It also stars a brand-new supporting cast including Jennifer Garner as Dorothy Gale, Chris Pine as Oz, Michael Shannon as the Tin Woodsman, and Mandy Patinkin as the Wicked Queen.
The story will also be told by the beloved voice of the Wizard of the Oz, Peter Cushing, who plays the iconic role of Dorothy Gale.
We’re very excited about this new chapter in the Wizard’s history and look forward to premiering it in 2018.”
The Wizard’s original 1939 movie also stars James Earl Jones, Dan Stevens, and Diane Lane.
