The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that The Dark Knight Rises is expected to make the list of contenders for the 2016 Republican presidential ticket, after having been one of the most-anticipated films in recent years.
The film has been in development for over two years, with producer Christopher Nolan and his producing partners, Amy Pascal and Christian Bale, reportedly close to a deal for a 2019 release.
Nolan previously said that he would consider the film for a potential 2016 presidential run, although that project has since been cancelled due to the 2016 election.
Sources familiar with the film’s development said Nolan is currently negotiating with the studio to bring the movie to the big screen, with a release expected in the first half of 2020.
Rising star Christian Bale has also been working on a script for a possible 2016 presidential campaign, which could also be a possible 2020 project.
As The Dark Tower was released to widespread acclaim in 2016, Nolan is reportedly close on a potential 2020 bid, but he has reportedly been told that a 2016 run would be a tougher sell.
With so many major studios reportedly planning to release The Dark, Nolan may have been able to secure his film for 2020, but it’s possible he could be looking for another vehicle to work with.
