Developers in India are increasingly turning to Google to hire developers and boost the country’s software-development industry, as the search engine continues to build out its own ecosystem of apps.
The company is currently using its platform to hire about 500,000 developers to develop apps for its Google Play and Android apps, according to the company.
The company said that in 2017, more than 80% of developers employed at its Indian units had previously worked at Google.
Google said in a statement that the platform has helped to build India’s software ecosystem and increase developer numbers to over 100 million, making it one of the fastest growing regions in the world.
Google has also set up an app-development company in Hyderabad, where the company is based.
The company said its India platform has more than doubled its developer numbers in the last two years, and it expects the same growth to continue in the coming years.
Google is currently recruiting a total of around 3.8 million developers in India and plans to recruit about 100,000 more this year.
